Class Description

The course examines how neuropsychology and neuropathology inform our understanding of human brain function. The class will utilize videos of classic neuropsychological disorders, neuropathological specimens of neurological disorders including stroke, brain tumor and neurodegenerative disorders as well as selected articles from the clinical and cognitive neuroscience literature. Behavioral and clinical areas covered include: aphasia, memory, attention, emotion, social interaction, perception, executive control, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s and dementia. At the end of the semester, each attendee will present a 10 minute pptx talk on one of the behavioral or clinical syndromes reviewed during the semester or on a neuropsychological topic of your choice. The presentation should include a description of the syndrome/disorder, a review of the literature and a synthesis of the relevant cognitive neuroscience literature aimed at understanding the observed behavioral deficits.
