Course Catalog Description

This advanced studio course is designed for students who have mastered basic and intermediate production skills and concepts involved in digital production and are interested in developing more complex creative projects that investigate critical, theoretical issues in media production. Students must have taken FILM 185 or equivalent.

Class Description

In this advanced film production course students produce the 10-20-minute project developed in Film 185, and work as cinematographer, sound designer, production designer, editor or producer in a classmate’s film. The term is broken into three stages – production, post-production phase 1 and post-production phase 2. During the production stage students shoot their films and present rushes in class. The first post-production phase focuses on rough cuts and the second post-production stage focuses on sound-design and color correction for final cuts. Prerequisites: Film 185 or written proposal for a 10 to 20-minute film and link to film or other art work required. Consent of instructor required. The class is open to juniors and seniors. Preference is given to Film & Media majors. Interested students should fill out an application form at https://forms.gle/DCuWjrjgX1imLn5P8 The deadline to apply is December 10. Students will be notified of enrollment by December 15. It is strongly encouraged to take this course for students planning on doing a production based Honors Thesis.
