Course Catalog Description
Course covers three main aspects of advanced Russian: grammar, syntax, and reading. Grammar is reviewed. Course taught in Russian.
Class Description
Russian 103A is аn advanced course on comprehension and communication skills, grammar, and cultural competence aimed at students who have completed the lower-division Russian sequence (Russian 1-4). The course will be based on authentic Russian sources from a variety of genres and media (with an emphasis on film) and will highlight vocabulary, idiomatic expression, and cultural awareness. It will also address the less familiar and more challenging areas of Russian grammar and syntax in conjunction with the advanced reading material. In this class, we will have a number of film screenings (to be followed by discussions in Russian). Students will watch a series of films in Russian, which explore the Soviet and post-Soviet experiences, and learn to talk about them. The course's goals are to expand students’ active vocabulary, strengthen their grasp of grammar, and further develop their ability to articulate ideas and opinions.
Taught primarily in Russian. Grades based on daily attendance and participation, written assignments, oral exams, and final interview/project.
