Course Catalog Description
The Berkeley Seminar Program has been designed to provide new students with the opportunity to explore an intellectual topic with a faculty member in a small-seminar setting. Berkeley seminars are offered in all campus departments, and topics vary from department to department and semester to semester. Enrollment limited to 15 freshmen.
Class Description
In their year-long collaboration, Giorgia Lupi and Stafanie Posavec collected data each week about their lives and assembled these data into a hand-drawn visualization that they mailed to each other. They discovered that their personal documentary helped them slow down and appreciate the small details in their lives and to connect with others on a deeper level. In this seminar we will read their book of 104 postcards, including their weekly reflections, and you will carry out your own data collection and drawing. Hopefully along the way you will see your world with a new appreciation where anything can be a creative starting point. No technical background required. A willingness to observe, collect, and draw to discover patterns in your everyday life.
