Course Catalog Description
Advanced training in both oral and written translation skills covering various areas of politics, business, technology, law, science, and culture. Elements of literary and poetic translation.
Class Description
The course will address basic challenges of and approaches to written translation, including patterns of conveying meaning from language to language. Students will edit and improve their own work, as well as analyze the merits and problems of existing translations. We will practice both English-to-Russian and Russian-to-English translation. There will be regular written assignments and an individual or collaborative final project.
