Course Catalog Description
Course involves pursuing study in subfields of sociological theory. The course presumes a general background in social theory.
Class Description
Covid-19 came suddenly and unexpectedly - or, did it? Focusing on the greater, and presumably imminent, global environmental crisis, the course will explore the question: why do we systematically ignore, or at least downplay, potential catastrophic risk. Rather than considering the usual psychological or sociological suspects, the focus of the course will be on our ways of thinking about the world (including nature), risk, and science.
Class Notes
The professor has waived the pre-requisites of Sociol 101 and 102.
