Course Catalog Description
Stoichiometry of chemical reactions, quantum mechanical description of atoms, the elements and periodic table, chemical bonding, real and ideal gases, thermochemistry, introduction to thermodynamics and equilibrium, acid-base and solubility equilibria, introduction to oxidation-reduction reactions, introduction to chemical kinetics.
Class Notes
Students must take Chem 1A either concurrently, or prior to, Chem 1AL. If taken concurrently, students may not drop Chem 1A and remain in Chem 1AL. If taken separately, students may not take Chem 1AL before passing Chem 1A with a grade of C- or better.

Credit Restrictions
Students will receive no credit for Chemistry 1A after completing Chemistry 1AD or 4A. A deficient grade in Chemistry 1A may be removed by taking Chemistry 1AD.
